that’s right kids – for the first time in over three years, i have a new a capella choral piece. titled “Sing Unto God,” it has an interesting story: a few months ago i was doing dishes (because my house didn’t have a dishwasher and i hated it sooooooooo much) and this very short idea popped into my head. i cycled around this statement for about 10 minutes before i finally left the dishes and went to my computer to put this to script. well, an hour later i had finally exhausted the thought from my brain and resumed my dishes, only to find myself chanting the statement again. the next night i put aside all of my school work and finished a draft of the piece. read the rest of this entry »

yes, you heard it here first (unless you heard it somewhere else already.) new music! i should say that this music is not entirely my own: the high school band members were assigned to write four measures of music per week for six weeks during the second quarter. i then took those ideas to create the piece that you are about to/have already heard that they will play at our may concert. it doesn’t have a title yet – i’m going to leave that up to them. because it’s computer-generated it sounds kind of weird (especially the percussion parts. finale doesn’t have a great wind chimes or rain stick sound so there’s an awkward pause.) check it out on my facebook page (it’s at the bottom of the list) and let me know what you think!

that’s right, i got engaged yesterday. my beautiful bride-to-be is a soprano, so i’ll have a guinea pig that i can test out some choral music on. there’s another reason that i want to marry her, but i’m sure i’ll remember it soon…

this winter, a group of students at doane college met for an interterm class on animation. their major project was the creation of an animated video set to the music of “Tuo Edisni (The Caktak March)”. You can check out the final product at youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2KYfTsHSDE.
