Composed 2026 for a capella SATB choir
Spring was written for my wife Liz’s birthday in February 2026
As I sat pondering what I was going to give my wife for her birthday, I realized that I had never written her a song. It seemed silly to think that after almost 18 years together, nothing had been put to the page in her honor, so I made a plan to make it happen.
Of course, it never works out that easily, until one day as I was driving down the highway that the text of this song came to me. Text that is about the simplicity of being with someone; not with someone and their phone, or with someone while you watch a movie, but just sharing time and space with another person. The next day I sat down to write and the piece was all but finished in two hours.
