Composed 2019 for Concert Band
Haboob was premiered on May 6, 2019 by the Fillmore Central High School Concert Band. From start to finish it gains momentum and sweeps the audience and performers off their feet!
“A haboob is a type of intense dust storm carried on an atmospheric gravity current, also known as a weather front. Haboobs occur regularly in dry land area regions throughout the world.” (Thanks, Wikipedia!)
I don’t remember which Symphonic Composition Project submission it was that planted the initial seed for this piece, but once I found it, the music flowed like a…….giant dust storm. It was easily the favorite piece of the concert, and a joy to perform on both sides of the baton.
