Sometimes an idea comes, flitters around my mind, and then disappears before I even have a chance to write it down. For Eine Kleine Tubemusik, the idea came fast and the execution furious! I had already spent time studying Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik (Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major), K. 525 when I arranged it for duet instruments, so pulling this arrangement together was a relative breeze! As I was writing it, I could envision the fun that the percussionists would have as they practiced and performed, getting the melody from beginning to end – a bass drummer’s dream!
